STAGES FLOODED
- McRAE BLOWS A GASKET
Today's two stages on the Oldfield property
alongside the Birdsville Track were cancelled because of recent
flooding. "Very sad," said property owner Sharon Oldfield,
"we were really looking forward to having the London-Sydney
come through."
So the day became a transport section with
a lunchtime interlude at the famous Birdsville Pub.
It should have been a day without drama
but late on into the afternoon Jimmy McRae stopped to talk
to a fellow competitor and when it came to restart his Toyota
engine the water temperature gauge shot off the clock and
steam filled the engine bay. A blown head gasket!! Not good
news since the team is not carrying a spare.
McRae's second place looks to be in jeopardy
unless a gasket can be sourced overnight.
With no stages run the results from yesterday
remain the same. more...
